Property Taxes

The Hard Truth: New Jersey has the highest property tax rate as a percentage of home price – almost double the national average. Morris County residents pay an average of $10,507 in property taxes annually, ranking 9th highest in the country.

Real Solutions:

  • Lowering the cost of public school employee healthcare. By streamlining available and offering less expensive healthcare plans, school districts can save up to $670 million per year, which will in turn lower your property taxes.

  • Dedicate the income tax to fund our schools. This would lower property taxes by 35 percent across the board and increase school funding by $500 million.

  • Allow municipalities to use realty transfer fees for property tax relief. Undedicated portions of the realty transfer fee would be allocated to each municipality to lower the property tax burden under this proposal.
